UPDATE: Salt & Light/Truth Project gaining Momentum!

Hanover S&L/Truth Project Members (ALL WELCOME!)

Dale and I were very happy and greatly encouraged by the fact that the room was filled last evening for what was only our second meeting. God is answering our prayers through your willingness to participate and to invite others. Not to sound like a broken record, but we urge you to spread the word of S&L’s existence to friends at your Church and to neighbors who are members of other congregations. Share with them the wisdom and revelation being imparted by Del Tackett’s Truth Project and invite them and their friends to become salt and light with us. This ministry effort has to grow. Because so many of the pulpits across America fail to recognize (hard to imagine) or choose to ignore (more likely) the state of our culture, those of the laity who are alert to the times must become more active. As was said last night, “We need more Christian heroes”.

The fact that the room was filled suggests the need to make certain we more accurately anticipate attendance and accommodate all who come. For that reason, please make every effort to bring one or more guests for our next meeting on March 4 and let us know in advance the number (including yourself) you think will attend. We ran short of handouts and had just enough seats, which is great news, but we want to provide for everyone. Your feedback will permit us to determine if we need to shift to a different venue on March 4. Thanks in advance for helping to spread the word.

As we noted last night, a website has been established for our group at Focus on the Family and we encourage you to sign up. Registration will provide access to more information concerning each of Del Tackett’s lectures on Truth. Go to www.mytruthproject.org click on “Join a Group” at the top of the page and you’ll be taken to a site that asks for information about you. You’ll only need to provide info in those spaces marked with an “*”. After you submit your data, you should be taken to a page that will let you search for a group. Enter “Ashland or Virginia” and a “Tuesday” meeting night as your search criteria and the Hanover S&L group meeting in the Whittco Building should appear. You can then register as a Participant in our group. You may conceal your identity from the group but those who have registered thus far have not chosen to do so.

At the close of last evening’s meeting, we discussed the need for Christians to react to the Bostic v. Rainey, unnatural marriage decision which declared Virginia’s Marriage Amendment unconstitutional. At both the State and Federal level, there are ways to do so and we encourage you and your friends to take an “all of the above” approach. Virginia Christian Alliance (http://vachristian.org/ ) has an AG impeachment petition on its home page that you may print, sign and return to the VCA for delivery. Likewise, The Family Foundation has a suggested action plan and online petition that can be found at (http://familyfoundation.org/ag_marriage/ ). Also, you should call your State Delegate and Senator and indicate your desire that he support the budget amendment which defunds the AG’s further involvement in the Bostic case (now on appeal). At the same time, indicate your support for the effort to authorize the House Speaker to take the necessary action to assure legal representation of the Commonwealth in the appellate courts.

For action at the Federal level, go to The National Organization for Marriage site (www.nationformarriage.org ) and follow the “Take Action” prompts, some of which can be found at (http://capwiz.com/nationformarriage/home/ ). You’ll find the marriage talking points we handed out last night at (www.nationformarriage.org/uploads/resources/667_Talking_Points_%255BJLG_FINAL%255D.pdf ) on the NOM site and on the National Marriage Week site (http://nationalmarriageweekusa.org/ ) at (http://nationalmarriageweekusa.org/images/research/NMW30Conclusions.pdf ).

We were happy to have first time attendees from the Church in Restoration, Ashland Church of God, Church of Redeemer, First Baptist of Ashland, The Family Foundation, Fairmount Christian, Cool Spring, Shady Grove, Hanover Baptist, West End Assembly of God and Christ Lutheran. They joined our returnees who either attend one of the above-named Churches or come from Forks Episcopal, Beaverdam Baptist, Mechanicsville Baptist, and Overbrook Presbyterian (and we apologize to anyone we left out).

We hope to see you and your friends on March 4 when we view Lesson 3 of The Truth Project, “Anthropology: Who is Man?” (See Below). Dale and Felix

Lesson 3 takes us into the western regions of the compass, where we engage in an in-depth examination of biblical and contemporary ideas about the nature of the human race. The focus of the discussion is anthropology: Who is man? Where did he come from? What is the meaning and purpose of his existence? In the course of this study, Dr. Tackett demonstrates that the answers we bring to these questions have a direct bearing upon our approach to another pressing problem, one of the thorniest and most challenging of all – Why is there evil in the world?
